For the best cake come see me

For fathers day/Colette's birthday we went to Texas Road House for dinner and then to a playhouse in Ogden. I had been wanting to make this cake for a while and here was my excuse. It was beautiful until I took the wax paper from under it. I was trying a new technique for keeping the plate clean. You put 3 sheets of wax paper barely under the cake then when you are done frosting you just pull out the sheets and your frosting is on the wax paper not the plate. When I did that the cake fell on one of the sides. By the time we got to Ogden the whole side of the cake was sliding off. All the lemon curd on top was a big landslide now. But the other side looked perfect. So we just kept the pretty side out.
It tasted as yummy as it looked. It is defiantly a make again cake.

Best Shake in Bear Lake?

Over Fathers Day weekend we went to the Barkers cabin. It was a little rainy and we didn't get to spend too much time on the boat but we still had a wonderful time. Rian got to play a little "pong" and the other kids were happy to have a friend to play with. The over 18 crowd got a little silly playing Sequence until wee hours of the morning.

One thing you have to do in Bear Lake is go get a raspberry shake. We decided to go to Hometown because that had the shortest line. But while standing at Hometown we decided to do a taste test. So we sent Brad and Aaron to LaBeaus for a raspberry shake while Shanna and I stayed at Hometown. Then we went to some log cabin place across the street from the gas station to get another raspberry shake. The winner.....Hometown. Hands down they had the best raspberry shake and the fastest service. Next time you visit Bear Lake drive right by famous La Beaus and go to Hometown for a better shake.

Happy Flag Day!

We spoke in church to celebrate! Not even funny if you are the one speaking. But it is over now. And it all went good. Topic was missionary service.

more birthday pics of importance

We took Rian to Little America for the breakfast buffet also. He was able to meet the head chef and get a tour of the kitchen. When we left we found a special visitor on the car.
Sweet sisters

more sweetness

Sarah at Build-a-bear (while the boys were at the sports store). She found a dog that she fell in love with. I was strong and didn't buy it for her.

My mom insisted on a hug and possibly a kiss for Rian to get the present she brought. If you are 14 there might not be anything worse than kissing your Grandma....no matter what the present is. But he handled it well. What was the present? A special coin for his collection.

Candy?

After a little too much ice cream Sarah was full of energy on the way home. She made us laugh. One thing she was doing is signing "candy". She has recently learned this sign. She will stand at the freezer door and sign this for frozen junior mints. It is too cute so we give her one.
She has figured us out. She stands at the freezer quite often now.:)
Rian turned the big one four on the 8th. He finally got the phone he has been patiently waiting for all his life.

The two things he wanted to do was eat Chinese food for dinner and go to Ben and Jerrys for the Vermonster Sundae. We started to Gateway mall and the rain came. Just like 3 years ago when we went on his birthday for a Vermonster. But by the time we got to Salt Lake the sun came out and it was beautiful. The rain has scared most of the people away so it was not crowded. We got take out from Thaifoon and ate by the water. Then went up for our ice cream. It was a perfect night. The food was great and the company was better.

BTW-At a physical for scout camp the dr projected Rian will be at least 6' 3" by the time he is 20 years old! He is 5' 11" now. Thanks Dad and bro for the tall genes!

A 6 year old Jakeism

When asked what his favorite part of the day was he said "The soccer game". We had Kache and his family over for Jakes birthday dinner and the kids went out to play soccer in the back yard.
Just goes to prove that the best things in life really are free. Especially to a 6 year old.

Birthday time

Jake turned 6 on the 6th of June. He has been so excited to be 6. For a year he has been 5 1/2. The "half" has been very important. It is not his year for a friend party but we let him pick one friend to take to a movie. We saw "Up". But I think he was most excited to see the transformer movie cut out.

About a month ago Kaches dad gave Jake a whole bag of Rolos. Jake thought about it for a few minutes and said "I want to make a cake and put these on the top and have the stuff come up the sides." Of course that made me happy to think he was thinking cakes. So I suggested we save the Rolos and make the cake for his birthday. I tried a new recipe and it turned out very yummy.

For his birthday he got a new wii game, 2 pair of shoes (one soccer and "croc" type shoes), 2 webkinz, a bakugan and a few other things. He requested home made pizza for dinner with Kaches family. It turned out to be a sweet six birthday.

Piano Recital

The last recital was on Emily's birthday and of course today being Jake's birthday we had a recital. The girls did super. Our teacher, Janet, has some amazing students. She teaches piano and violin. The girls love her and I love her style of teaching.

National Doughnut Day

Did you get your free doughnut at KK? It is kind of hard to get motivated to go since every day you get a free doughnut at the KK. But none the less, Happy Doughnut Day!
FYI-We never made it to KK for our free doughnut. It was too crazy of a day. All the last day of school activities and such.

Kindergarten Graduation and show stopper

Jake had the cutest graduation program. He loved the songs they had been learning all year. Luckily I was able to get a front row seat (you have to arrive very early to do that). And sitting on the front row gave Sal a lot of room to show off.
The first thing that happened was she had a dirty diaper. I took her out to change her. She escaped from me while I found a place to deposit the diaper and took off for the gym. Right when she got to the door a song had ended and everyone clapped. Sal thought it was for her and she stopped and got this big smile on her face. I didn't see it but Brad laughed for a long time about it.
Then she liked to dance to the songs. Boy does she have some moves. The video camera that I always take with me to programs was sitting home on the counter. But it was hard not to watch her.
She did try to join the kindergartners a few times and we would run up and grab her. I don't know if everyone else thought she was as cute as we did that day.
Way to go Jake! I know you can't wait for 1st grade. But I can. Sal and I will miss you.

All good things must come to an end..

Emily and Mrs. Brough

Jake and Ms. Liddell

We had a great year at SHE. The kids loved their teachers. They learned a lot. We all became better friends with Mrs. Leu, the school librarian. I co-chaired the book fairs with Michelle Schick. Somehow Sarah was sick during every book fair. We made it through the year and are ready for summer.
